From the Desk of the Commander

The election of Post Officers and appointment of Committee Chairs will soon be upon us.  Here at the Jordan-Duncan Post 15, our Constitution and By-Laws stipulate we will ask for nominations in May, hold elections in June and install the new Officers and Committee Chairs in July.  Only Post members, who are “members in good standing”, may nominate for and elect members for the various Officer positions.  To be a ”member in good standing”, your membership dues must be current, and members must be in possession of their current Membership ID card.

Officers and Committee Chairs serve for a one-year term.  Incumbents who are running unopposed shall be reelected by acclamation of the Post members.

The Executive Committee (ExCom) oversees the government and management of the Post and provides business oversight over Post affairs.  The make-up of the ExCom consists of all Officers and at least two members “at-large”, who will represent and speak on behalf of the general membership.  Not all appointed/approved Committee Chairs are required to attend ExCom meetings, as most of the Committees have a limited scope of responsibility, have a minimum impact on financial resources, and their duties are only executed during specific times of the year.

As you can see, there are many opportunities for members to participate in the leadership positions within our Post.  Members bring new ideas and experiences to the table that help achieve the goals of the American Legion, support the local Veteran community, and aid our support of the Four Pillars.  Our Post has seen a significant increase in membership over the past 18 months and we need your support, and participation in the mission of our Post.  Please consider running for an Officer position or taking on the duties of a Committee Chair.  Serving your fellow Veterans is a great way to give back to the community, ensures the mission of the Post endures, and I believe it brings satisfaction in your continued service to the Country.

Feel free to contact me directly (562-756-8497) if you are interested (or curious) in servicing in any of the positions or committees cited above.

Sincerely,

Preston Swift

Post Commander
