Rotary Club and Post 15 Host Annual Kid Fish Day at American Legion Lake
The morning air was warm and humid, typical for a June day in East Texas. Fortunately, a steady breeze rolled off the water at American Legion Lake, offering relief and setting the tone for a peaceful, family-focused day. Along the tree-lined banks, the sounds of children’s laughter blended with the splash of bobbers and quiet encouragement from parents. Small bonding moments—parents helping with tangled lines, kids cheering over their first catch—were repeated across the shoreline.
On Saturday, June 15, American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15, in partnership with the Lindale Rotary Club, hosted its annual Kid Fish Day. This growing tradition continues to bring joy, outdoor fun and education to local families. What began as a simple fishing event in 2018 has evolved into one of the most cherished family gatherings of the year for the Lindale community.
This year, the event welcomed children of all ages to fish for free, enjoy a hot dog lunch, and receive a brand-new fishing pole if they were among the first 100 participants. The poles were generously provided by the Lindale Rotary Club. The excitement was contagious as kids cast their lines into the lake, some for the very first time, while veterans and volunteers stood by to lend a helping hand or offer fishing tips.
In addition to open fishing, a friendly competition was held to see who could reel in the biggest catch. The overall winner was Emmett T., who caught a 1.09-pound bass, narrowly edging out Ethan W., whose fish came in at 1.06 pounds.

The event is funded in part by the Rotary Club’s Wild Game Dinner, held each February. Proceeds from the dinner support a variety of local programs, including Kid Fish, and allow the Rotary to continue investing in Lindale’s youth.
This collaboration reflects the shared mission of the Rotary Club and The American Legion. Both organizations are dedicated to service, leadership, and strengthening their communities through programs that engage and support youth and families.
“It is important to us that we have these outdoor family events with the community alongside Post 15,” said Amanda Froebe, Rotary Club Kid Fish co-chair. “We have grown every year since our first joint Kid Fish event in 2018, and it has been an incredible success that we plan on continuing.”
The American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 is proud to work alongside community partners like the Lindale Rotary Club. Events such as Kid Fish are more than just a day of fun. They create lasting memories, build connections between generations, and provide meaningful opportunities for service and reflection.
As the final fish were caught and the day drew to a close, it was clear that this event had once again delivered something special. It brought families together, honored community values, and reminded everyone why service matters.
