On September 18, American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 proudly joins the nation in celebrating the 78th birthday of the United States Air Force. Since its official establishment in 1947, the Air Force has stood as a powerful symbol of American innovation, strength, and defense.
Born out of the U.S. Army Air Forces following the National Security Act of 1947, the Air Force became a distinct branch of the United States military charged with maintaining air superiority, conducting global strike capabilities, and delivering rapid response to threats across the globe. In the decades since, the Air Force has been a driving force in every major American military engagement, from the Cold War to operations in the Middle East, and continues to lead in space, cyber, and unmanned operations.
At Post 15, we are proud to count Air Force veterans among our members, individuals who have contributed to the excellence and legacy of this distinguished branch. Their stories reflect years of dedication, discipline, and technological mastery that have shaped the modern battlefield and helped preserve the freedoms we hold dear.
The American Legion shares in the mission of the U.S. Air Force through its commitment to national security, youth education, and community engagement. Whether through scholarship programs, support for active-duty military families, or initiatives that advocate for veteran healthcare and benefits, the Legion stands as a trusted ally to the Air Force and all who serve.
As we commemorate the Air Force’s 78th birthday, we encourage our Post members and the Lindale community to recognize and thank the men and women who have worn the Air Force uniform. Their dedication has helped keep America safe and strong from the skies above.
To our Air Force veterans—past and present—your service has not gone unnoticed. Happy Birthday, and thank you for your service.
