This designation was initiated by a resolution adopted by the Smith County Commissioners Court recognizing the contributions of veterans. The effort was supported by the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce Veterans Committee, CAMP V (a veterans resource center), and the East Texas Council of Governments.
