National Korean War Armistice Day

  • American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 18251 County Road 498 (Legion Hills Road) Lindale, TX 757771 USA (map)

Each year on July 27, our nation solemnly observes National Korean War Armistice Day, marking the date in 1953 when the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. Though it did not end the war entirely, it brought an end to open combat after three long years of unimaginable hardship, loss, and sacrifice.

The Korean War, often overshadowed in the national memory, claimed the lives of more than 36,000 American service members, wounded over 100,000 more, and left deep scars on both the battlefield and the home front. For the men and women who served, and for the families who waited and mourned, the war was never forgotten.

At American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15, we pause on this day not to celebrate, but to remember. We remember the soldiers who endured bitter winters on foreign soil, the sailors who patrolled distant waters, and the airmen who braved hostile skies. We remember those who returned home quietly, bearing burdens that few could see, and those who never came home at all.

This day is a sacred reminder of our responsibility to honor their service, to speak their names, and to ensure their sacrifices are never lost to time. It is also a call to serve in their memory—to support our veterans, to educate our youth, and to uphold the values for which they fought.

The American Legion was founded on the principles of service, patriotism, and remembrance. National Korean War Armistice Day stands as a powerful symbol of why those principles endure. For our Post and for every member of the Legion Family, it is a day of reflection, reverence, and resolve.

We invite the Lindale community to join us in honoring Korean War veterans, whether by attending a local memorial, flying the American flag, or simply taking a quiet moment to give thanks for the freedoms we so often take for granted.

Let us not allow their stories to fade. Let us carry their legacy forward with dignity, purpose, and a renewed commitment to the cause of peace and freedom.
