Auxiliary Unit Raises $760 in Memorial Day Poppy Drive at Brookshire’s
Members of the American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 Auxiliary Unit held a successful Memorial Day Poppy Drive outside Brookshire’s in Lindale, raising $760 in donations from the community.
The team distributed 412 poppy pins along with several handmade flowers. The response from the public was overwhelmingly positive, with many Lindale residents stopping by to donate and show their appreciation for America’s fallen heroes.
Auxiliary participants included Misty Milam Johnson, her daughter Kaci Johnson—a proud Junior Auxiliary member—Barbara Iglehart Kirkpatrick, and Susan Thomas. Despite the heat, these dedicated volunteers stood at their table with smiles, patriotism and gratitude for the opportunity to share the significance of the poppy tradition.
The red poppy has long symbolized remembrance of those who died in military service. It serves as a visual reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the U.S. armed forces who gave their lives in the name of freedom.
“We are truly blessed to be part of a community that understands the true meaning of Memorial Day,” said one Auxiliary member. “Every time we enjoy the freedoms we have, we should remember the men and women who gave everything to protect them.”
The Auxiliary also extended its thanks to the Brookshire’s staff, who kindly placed umbrellas near the tables to help shield volunteers from the sun.
The American Legion Family of Post 15 is grateful for the continued support of the Lindale community and encourages everyone to take time this weekend to remember and honor the fallen.
