Post 15 Honors Fallen Heroes with Memorial Day Flag-In

In solemn preparation for Memorial Day, members of the American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 American Legion Family came together on Wednesday to conduct a flag-in ceremony at local Lindale cemeteries.

The effort was led by Auxiliary Unit members Jan Stehman and Valerie Swift, with assistance from Post 15 Commander Preston Swift. Together, they placed U.S. flags at the gravesites of military veterans buried throughout the historic cemetery. Commander Swift is shown placing a flag at the headstone of veteran Cleburn Jordan, the namesake of Post 15 and a distinguished figure in local military history.

For all three participants, the experience was a moving reminder of the meaning behind Memorial Day.

“It’s not just about flags and headstones—it’s about remembrance,” said one of the Auxiliary members. “Each name represents a life of service and sacrifice.”

The flag-in tradition, often performed in the days leading up to Memorial Day, is a visual expression of respect for those who died in service to our nation, as well as those veterans who served honorably and are now laid to rest. While Arlington National Cemetery may be the most recognized site for such ceremonies, local cemeteries across the country—like Sabine—carry the stories of hometown heroes whose legacy lives on.

Post 15 encourages all members of the Lindale community to take time this Memorial Day to reflect on the ultimate sacrifices made by the men and women of the U.S. armed forces. Acts of remembrance, both public and private, help ensure that those who served are never forgotten.
