Legionnaire Extends His Mission by Giving Peace of Mind to Fellow Veterans
LINDALE, Texas (Aug. 9, 2025) – The sun was high, and the Post home was buzzing with quiet purpose as veterans and their families arrived one by one, not for a ceremony or celebration, but for something equally meaningful. They came to secure peace of mind for their loved ones.
On Saturday, Aug. 9, American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15 hosted a free will clinic for veterans and their spouses, led by Post 15 member Marcio Soares, PLLC, of The Soares Law Firm in Tyler. The event was originally scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but Soares extended his efforts until 4 p.m. to ensure every veteran who arrived was served.
Soares, a Special Forces veteran, donated his time and professional expertise to provide this essential service, reflecting the American Legion’s core pillars of Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation and Community Service.
“Offering free will clinics to veterans means honoring their service in a way that is both practical and deeply personal,” Soares said. “As someone who has worn the uniform and understands the sacrifices involved—time away from family, the risk of injury or death, the unrelenting demands of service—I see these clinics as an opportunity to continue serving my brothers and sisters in arms.
“It’s more than just drafting documents. It’s about removing barriers so veterans can protect their loved ones without worrying about cost. Many have given so much and ask for so little in return, and ensuring they have the peace of mind that comes from having a will is a small way to repay an immense debt.
“It also means creating a safe, respectful space where veterans can speak openly about their wishes and fears, knowing they’re understood by someone who has walked in their boots. It’s service after service, a continuation of the mission, this time on the home front, to safeguard the legacies and dignity of those who have already given so much.”
Soares also shared that he plans to continue offering free will clinics on a semi-regular basis to ensure that all Post 15 members and their spouses who wish to take advantage of this opportunity can do so.
Post 15 Commander Preston Swift praised Soares’ contribution. “Events like these show what it means to be a Legionnaire,” Swift said. “Marcio’s generosity ensures our members and their families have peace of mind, and that is one of the greatest gifts you can give.”
Throughout the day, veterans shared their stories, reconnected with fellow servicemembers, and took comfort in knowing their wishes were secured. The effort exemplified the Legion Family’s enduring mission of service, ensuring that the bond of brotherhood continues long after military service ends.
