On August 4, the American Legion Family joins the nation in celebrating the 235th birthday of the United States Coast Guard, one of our country’s oldest and most dedicated military branches. Since its founding in 1790 as the Revenue Cutter Service, the Coast Guard has stood watch over our waters, protecting our homeland, saving lives, and ensuring maritime safety with courage and commitment.
The Coast Guard has played a vital role in every major American conflict and continues to serve as a crucial component of our national defense and disaster response infrastructure. Coast Guard personnel carry out missions ranging from search and rescue to drug interdiction, ice operations, homeland security, and environmental protection. They serve at sea, in the air, and along thousands of miles of coastline with honor and readiness.
At American Legion Jordan-Duncan Post 15, we take great pride in honoring the veterans of all military branches. Today, we extend special appreciation to the Coast Guard veterans who are part of our Post 15 Family. Their service reflects the highest traditions of military duty and reminds us that whether on land or sea, every veteran’s contributions matter.
The mission of the American Legion is rooted in support for veterans, national security, Americanism, and youth. The Coast Guard’s daily efforts to defend and protect our nation closely align with these pillars. As we reflect on their 235 years of service, we are reminded that the Legion and the Coast Guard share a common bond of duty, honor, and commitment to community and country.
We encourage our members and the greater Lindale community to take a moment today to thank a Coast Guard veteran. Reach out, show appreciation, and learn from their stories. Let us continue to preserve the legacy of service and sacrifice that unites us all.
Happy Birthday to the United States Coast Guard. Your bravery, vigilance, and dedication do not go unnoticed. From your fellow veterans at American Legion Post 15, thank you for your unwavering service.
